Skill Level: No Experience Necessary
If you have never taken a sewing class at Silk Road Textiles, this class is REQUIRED before taking any other kids' or teens' sewing classes. In this introductory session, you will learn to use and care for a sewing machine. Covered topics include properly threading the needle, winding a bobbin, sewing a straight line, selecting stitch patterns, and good sewing habits. During the first class we will all make pincushions that can be used throughout other sewing classes. Then, we will hone our skills by making the reversible messenger bag project found in A Kid's Guide To Sewing by Sophie Kerr.
We have sewing machines at the store for you to use, no need to bring one with you!
Class supplies must be purchased from Silk Road Textiles, either in store or through the SRT Online Marketplace. By using our high quality products, you know that you have the right tools and fibers to set you up for success, and we are able to keep our class prices down.
Required Reading: Most of the projects in our kids' entry level sewing classes come from A Kid's Guide To Sewing by Sophie Kerr. If you do not already own a copy of this book, you will need to purchase one to participate in our classes.
