Non-Perishable Protein-Rich Food Drive

Tips for the BEST Donations!
· Donate non-perishable goods that you would like to receive.
· Consider items that could be used to make easy meals like casseroles, pasta dishes or sandwiches.
· When it comes to canned goods like beans or tuna, or low sodium soups or sauces, look for pull-tab lids that don't require a can opener, for better accessibility.
· Avoid glass as it may break is transport and is heavy to carry.
· Ensure that items aren’t already opened, damaged or expired before donating them.
Budget Friendly Foods That Add 7+ Grams of Protein
Look for pull tabs on all canned foods.
1. Canned Tuna (packed in water or oil)
2. Canned Lentils
3. Canned Salmon
4. Canned Black Beans
5. Canned Sardines
6. Canned Chickpeas
7. Canned Chicken
8. Nut Butter – peanut, almond, hazelnut, cashew, etc (avoid glass jars)
9. Peanuts and almonds, other nuts
10. Powdered milk, shelf-stable milk and shelf-stable plant-based milk alternatives.
Add food items used in meal preparation too!
1. Low Sodium broth, soups, or sauces (pull tabs)
2. Shelf-stable cooking oils
3. Common spices or spice blends
4. Cultural or seasonal specialties

Silk Road Textiles is open late every Thursday night, and we are happy to host open stitch nights. Bring an idea – bring a project – bring a question – bring yourself! One knitter said, ”It was so nice to sit, chat and knit. Very relaxing. I may have to come in every week!” – Please do; all hand-stitchers are welcome.
*Stitch Social and Sip & Stitch are free events for our adult customers. We ask that you work on projects using materials purchased at Silk Road Textiles at these events. Stitch Socials are NOT a class! The facilitator or fellow stitchers may be able to answer a quick question--come have some fun!

Beauty is Everywhere
Silk Road Textiles welcomes its new mural, located on the south side of the building! Designed by Christopher A. Ritter and BLDG Brands, “Beauty is Everywhere” invites viewers to open their eyes and discover the extraordinary in the ordinary. It is inspired by Confucius’s wisdom that “everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.” This mural challenges us to shift our perspectives and appreciate the richness around us.
In this work, iconic illustrated women are “sewn together” to create a unified face, symbolizing the interconnectedness of diverse cultures and identities. Each visage blends elements from various ethnicities, celebrating our shared humanity and the beauty of embracing our differences. Flanked by textile patterns from the Sandwich Islands, the Middle East, and India, the mural honors global beauty while inviting reflection on the aesthetics of College Hill. Measuring 16 feet × 60 feet on the side of Silk Road Textiles, this vibrant artwork transforms the urban landscape into a canvas of appreciation and awareness.
