The Olive Poncho is a great first garment to knit. The ribbed fabric is created with a pattern of knit and purl stitches. One end is joined to the body to create the opening for the head and neck. Learn to measure gauge (a must for knitting wearables!), basic seaming techniques, and a new (to you!) cast-on method.
