Get ready for cool autumn nights and Halloween frights with this fabulous quilt! Curved piecing is ideal for bat wings, giving them their characteristic shape. Students will master curved piecing with minimal pinning with the help of the Mini Quick Curve Ruler.
Prerequisites: All students must be comfortable rotary cutting and using a sewing machine.
Be sure to purchase your fabric and other supplies from Silk Road Textiles, online or in store!
Four (4) assorted black fat quarters for bats
One (1) silver/white/gold fat quarter for moon
2 yards background fabric
Other supplies needed:
QCR Mini Ruler
Mini Wonderful Curves Book
thread (50 or 60 wt. cotton) for piecing
rotary cutter and mat (a 28mm or 18mm cutter is best for cutting the curves)
long rotary cutting ruler (6.5"x24" is a good size)
basic sewing supplies like snips and pins
Pre class homework (so we can get started cutting curves right away):
From each black fat quarter, cut four (6) 5.5" squares for a total of 24 squares. Cut squares in half diagonally to make 48 triangles.
From the silver/white/gold fat quarter, four (4) 5" squares and one (1) 4" square.
