pillow_action_KALFundamentals: Get to Know Your Sewing Machine
Cost $25

Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – appropriate for adults and teens

Bring your machine, accessories, attachments, manual, and thread and learn how to operate your own sewing machine with confidence. Threading, bobbin winding, stitching, special features, and simple maintenance will be covered in this very personalized class. All makes and models welcome.  Please let the instructor know at registration what type of machine you will be using. If you would like to learn to sew but do not have your own machine, you may take this class using one of our store machines – simply reserve a machine when you register.


Fundamentals: Pillowcase Panache
Cost $25 + supplies

Skill Level: Beginner – appropriate for adults and teens

This is a great first project for the beginner or those wishing to brush up their sewing machine skills. Using two different cuts totaling one yard of fabric, create a banded bed pillow case using basic sewing skills. Choose fabric yourself in the store to match your style.  Student must be able to operate a sewing machine for basic stitching.


Quilt by Numbers Paper Piecing
Cost: $50 + supplies

Learn how to paper piece while making a cute mini wall hanging!  Paper piecing lets you put together complicated-looking blocks with ease.  This intro class takes you from simple, traditional blocks like log cabin and flying geese, then move into fun, picture blocks with trees and baskets.  If you can sew a straight line, you can paper piece.


Kids’ Beginning Sewing (Ages 8+)

If you have never taken a sewing class at Silk Road Textiles, this class is required before taking any other kids’ or teens’ sewing classes. Each section is a two-day class where students will learn to use and care for a sewing machine. Covered topics include properly threading the needle, winding a bobbin, sewing a straight line, selecting stitch patterns, and good sewing habits. During the class we will all make pincushions that can be used throughout other sewing classes. If time permits, we may also make geometric pillows. You are welcome to bring your machine from home or use one of ours – just let us know when you register which you’d prefer. Required Reading: All the projects in our kids’ entry level sewing classes come from A Kid’s Guide To Sewing by Sophie Kerr. If you do not already own a copy of this book, you will need to purchase one to participate in our classes.


Classic Tailored Shirt
Cost: $65 + supplies

Take your apparel sewing skills to the next level! Learn to sew a classic tailored shirt, either for men or women. Learn to make a collar, collar stand, placket, cuff, yoke, and pocket. Students must have some apparel making experience.


011Open-Out Box Pattern
Cost: $35 + supplies

The third part of the Aneela Hoey bag series is the Open-up Box Pouch, a fun bag that uses a separating zipper to open out into a box to hold all of your sewing or crafting supplies! This class is the third part of a 3-part bag sewing series — If you sign up for all three classes together, each class is only $25 each!

The designer says:

“This one has been on my brain for a while – I wanted to create a fairly standard looking zip pouch that magically expands into a box shape when open.  This means that you can easily see and grab what you need then zip it up to keep contents secure when not in use.  It’s a fun project to sew and has so many uses – perfect for projects, tools, travel, kids and more!”

Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


KSC: Pajama Pants
Cost: $25 + supplies

Wed. 6/19 and Thu. 6/20 1-2:30PM

Students in this class will learn to make a super comfy pair of PJs! These easy-to-sew bottoms come in shorts or cropped pant lengths and feature a wide elastic waistband for added comfort. Simple to make and cozy to wear! Students in this class must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


Decorative Throw Pillow
Cost: $30 + supplies

Wed. 6/5, 12-2PM

Students will create a decorative throw pillow with an envelope closure. Learn how to measure, cut, cover binding, and stitch to achieve a pillow with a professional appearance. Great for students looking to add a few skills to their sewing repertoire! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


KSC: Duffel Bag
Cost: $35 + supplies

Expand your sewing skills while making a sturdy duffel bag! Students will learn to construct a bag, sew curves, and add a zipper. All students must have completed Kids Beginning Sewing at Silk Road Textiles.


KSC: Monster Pillow
Cost: $25 + supplies

Have some fun while practicing sewing skills. Make a monster pillow! All students must have completed Kids’ Beginning Sewing at Silk Road Textiles before taking this class.


Beginner Mini Quilt
Cost: $45 + supplies

This class, designed for new quilters, teaches the basics of constructing a quilt. Students will learn piecing, measuring, cutting with a rotary cutter, use of batting and applying binding. Choose your own fabrics to create your own masterpiece!


Tweens and Teens Mini Quilt (Ages 11+)
Cost: $45 + supplies

Be prepared for sleepovers and vacations with this handy Dopp Kit to stow your overnight essentials. This class is for students who have taken at least three sewing classes at Silk Road Textiles and are ready for a more challenging sewing project.


Visible Mending: Machine Techniques
Cost: $35 + supplies

Wed. 6/26 3-6PM

This fun workshop in perfect for anyone that wants to explore a variety of techniques for mending their own clothing and other fabric items using a sewing machine! Using exposed stitches that add interest and design elements to your garments or home goods. Bring a sewing machine or use one of ours, students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.

KSC: Bag It Up!
Cost: $45 + supplies

Make a unique pencil case and lunch bag. Use laminated fabric to make a wipe-clean, environmentally friendly version of the lunch bag. Students must have completed Kids Beginning Sewing at Silk Road Textiles before taking this class.


KSC: Camp Out

Tue. 7/23, Wed. 7/24, Thu. 7/25 AND Fri. 7/26 1-2:30PM

In this two-part class, students will learn to make a headband and a zippered pouch. This class is designed for kids with basic sewing skills who know how to use a sewing machine.  All students must have taken Kids Intro to Sewing at SRT prior to this class. They will expand their skills, learning to install a zipper and to make a casing and insert elastic. A great way to practice those sewing skills.
