pillow_action_KALFundamentals: Get to Know Your Sewing Machine
Cost $25

Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – appropriate for adults and teens

Tue. 1/15 2-4PM

Bring your machine, accessories, attachments, manual, and thread and learn how to operate your own sewing machine with confidence. Threading, bobbin winding, stitching, special features, and simple maintenance will be covered in this very personalized class. All makes and models welcome.  Please let the instructor know at registration what type of machine you will be using. If you would like to learn to sew but do not have your own machine, you may take this class using one of our store machines – simply reserve a machine when you register.


Beginner Mini Quilt
Cost: $40 + supplies

Skill Level: Beginner

Wed. 12/5 AND 12/12 10:30AM – 12:30PM

Designed for new quilters, this class will teach the basics of constructing a quilt. Students will learn piecing, measuring, cutting with a rotary cutter, use of batting and applying binding. Choose your own fabrics to create your own masterpiece!

Great for organizing everything you need for each of your projects, these handy totes have sturdy quilted bases and fun fabric details! A zippered closure keeps everything safe and a see-through vinyl window allows you to see at a glance what’s in your bag! Quick and easy to make, the bags make great gifts, too! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


Fundamentals: Pillowcase Panache

This is a great first project for the beginner or those wishing to brush up their sewing machine skills. Using two different cuts totaling one yard of fabric, create a banded bed pillow case using basic sewing skills. Choose fabric yourself in the store to match your style.  Student must be able to operate a sewing machine for basic stitching.


Sweetpea Pods
Cost: $35 + supplies

Sweetpeas hold your treasures like peas in a pod. Pods zip closed for secure storage and open wide for easy access. Great for stowing little things or tucking into small spaces. This pattern uses half a zipper for each pouch, so you will have enough materials to make two! A fun project for beginners! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


Visible Mending: Hand-Stitching Techniques

This fun 2-day workshop is perfect for anyone that wants to explore a variety of techniques for mending their own clothing and other fabric items! Using exposed stitches that add interest and design elements to your garments or home goods. Let that pesky hole in your sweater become an opportunity for one-of-a-kind creativity! This introductory class teaches hand-stitching for all your mending needs.


Kraft-tex Wristlet

Sew a fun wristlet, perfect for last minute gifts, using Kraft-tex paper fabric. Students will learn to add embellishments. install a zipper, and add a handle to the pouch! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


Cork Cross Body Bag

This cross body bag with a back pocket and coordinating metal hardware is a fun introduction to sewing with cork fabric. There are many colors and patterns of cork to choose from to personalize this cute little bag, make it your own! Students must have experience using a sewing machine.

Simple Sashiko

Learn the art of Sashiko, a traditional Japanese embroidery technique that features beautiful geometric patterns stitched onto  fabric. Start by using the book, Simple Sashiko, as a guide to stitch a design onto fabric before incorporating your embroidery into a small tote bag. Enjoy this beautiful and useful craft!


Kimono Jacket

Create the flattering kimono jacket featured in the Bold and Beautiful pattern book. Learn basic pattern reading, adjusting for length and garment construction, including facing and buttonholes. We have a great selection of Indian cottons to make this funky jacket, so sign up and pick up your favorite fabric today! Sew Together Bag

“A place for everything, and everything in its place” is an apt description of this perfectly sized bag with copious pockets and zippers. The Sew Together Bag is the perfect bag to hold tools, machine feet, pins, needles, rotary cutters and even sheers. Make it from the laminated cotton fabric at Silk Road, and it can be used for painting supplies, make-up, and tubes and bottles that may leak. Students will learn bag construction, including zipper installation  and binding application. Class includes a half hour lunch break, so be sure to bring your lunch.


Diagnostic Serger-y
Cost: $100 + supplies

Bring your Serger and learn basic techniques while creating a technique notebook. This one day class is a combination of lecture/demo/do.

Betty Mitchell began her love affair with the sewing machine at the age of eight and it has grown ever since. Originally a garment sewer, she now concentrates more on Home Décor, embroidery, accessories and sergers. Her classes are meant to be informative and relaxing. Betty says, “In the end it’s just a bunch of thread and fiber to have fun with!” Betty spent 30 years in Rhode Island teaching Family and Consumer Sciences and ‘retired’ to teach classes and sell machines for sewing machine dealers in southwest Florida for eight years. At the same time she began teaching at national dealer conventions, various sewing and quilting shows as well as local and regional sewing guilds. Seven years ago she re-retired to her Grandchildren in Kentucky. She still teaches at a couple of local stores and has launched a line of patterns.


All Seasons Tote Bag

Fri. 2/1 10:30AM-2:30PM

This two-handled tote bag is a fun project for anyone looking to hone their sewing skills! Students will get started by cutting pieces from a pattern, before affixing an interfacing and creating a lining for the bag. They will then create an exterior pocket and handles and topstitch them onto the bag. Use this spacious bag to carry all of your future sewing projects! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.


Serger: T-Shirt and Leggings, Saturday, 2/9, AND Sunday, 2/10, 9AM – 4PM: On the first day, fit a pattern for a t-shirt and leggings. Bring your Serger on Sunday to sew your new outfit!

Disappearing Nine Patch Quilt

This class is perfect for students that love to make quick-pieced quilt blocks and quilts! To make the Disappearing Nine Patch, a simple nine patch quilt block is sliced in half twice to create four smaller units. This class is a great for beginning quilters or those wishing to build their quilting skills! Classes must be comfortable using a sewing machine.
