Cost $25

Skill Level: No Experience Necessary – appropriate for adults and teens

Fri. 9/13 1-3PM OR Sat. 10/26 1-3PM

Bring your machine, accessories, attachments, manual, and thread and learn how to operate your own sewing machine with confidence. Threading, bobbin winding, stitching, special features, and simple maintenance will be covered in this very personalized class. All makes and models welcome.  Please let the instructor know at registration what type of machine you will be using. If you would like to learn to sew but do not have your own machine, you may take this class using one of our store machines – simply reserve a machine when you register.

Fundamentals: Pillowcase Panache

This is a great first project for the beginner or those wishing to brush up their sewing machine skills. Using two different cuts totaling one yard of fabric, create a banded bed pillow case using basic sewing skills. Choose fabric yourself in the store to match your style.  Student must be able to operate a sewing machine for basic stitching.

Kids’ Beginning Sewing (Ages 8+)

Tue. 9/17 AND 9/24  4:15-5:30PM

If you have never taken a sewing class at Silk Road Textiles, this class is required before taking any other kids’ or teens’ sewing classes. Each section is a two-day class where students will learn to use and care for a sewing machine. Covered topics include properly threading the needle, winding a bobbin, sewing a straight line, selecting stitch patterns, and good sewing habits. During the class we will all make pincushions that can be used throughout other sewing classes. If time permits, we may also make geometric pillows. You are welcome to bring your machine from home or use one of ours – just let us know when you register which you’d prefer. Required Reading: All the projects in our kids’ entry level sewing classes come from A Kid’s Guide To Sewing by Sophie Kerr. If you do not already own a copy of this book, you will need to purchase one to participate in our classes.

Sew Together Bag
Cost: $45 + supplies

The Sew Together Bag is the perfect bag to store all of your sewing needs. It can also be made using polyurethane fabric to make a waterproof bag. The bag has three zip pockets and room in between to store extra items. This perfect bag is small but holds a lot! Students will add to their bag construction skills, including adding zippers and binding.

Sat. 8/17, 8/24, AND 9/14 10:15AM – 12:15PM

Turn a favorite quote into a work of art! Using fun and easy raw edge, fusible applique, students will form words and fuse them to a background fabric. The third class will focus on straight line quilting to secure the edges of the appliqued letters.

Everyday Essentials

Everyday Essentials is a collection of 3 modern accessories from Noodlehead patterns that are designed to be used in your everyday life. Students will start this series with a classic tote featuring a durable waxed canvas bottom and a front pocket that is perfect for stashing keys and a phone! The second project will be a fun pouch that’s just the right size for all your favorite goodies – students will learn to place a zipper and create darts on the bottom of this cute bag. The last part of the class will focus on making a small wallet that uses Kraft-tex paper fabric as a fun accent; students will learn to install a zipper and snaps on this sophisticated bag!

The class fee includes the cost of the kit – including the pattern booklet, the waxed canvas, hardware, and Kraft-tex paper fabric, interfacing, and twill tape!

All Seasons Tote

This class is a great introductory bag-sewing class for students looking to learn new basic sewing skills! Students will learn to make a versatile tote with lining, pockets, and handles that will be top-stitched on to their bag, Students will pick a few coordinating fabrics to make their bag unique and fun! Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.

Scrap Petal Garden Quilt Top
Cost: $75 + supplies

Sun. 9/22, 9/29, AND 10/6 2-4:30PM

Combine the vibrancy of Kaffe Collective Fabrics with the timelessness of low volume neutral prints to create your very own Scrap Petal Garden quilt top. Perfect for beginning and experienced quilters alike, students  will piece their background fabrics and use raw edge fusible applique to add flower petals. Come join the fun and make a colorful, exuberant quilt!

KSC: Camp Out
Cost $45 + supplies

Tue. 10/1, 10/8, 10/15 AND 10/22 4:15-5:30PM

In this four-part class, students will learn to make a pillowcase and large drawstring bag with a zippered pocket, perfect for sleepovers and camp outs. This class is designed to practice and expand basic sewing skills while making something fun and useful.  All students must have taken Kids Beginning Sewing at SRT prior to this class. They will expand their skills, learning to install a zipper and to make a casing and insert elastic. A great way to practice those sewing skills!

Serger: Tunic and Leggings
Cost $200 + supplies

Sat. 10/12 AND Sun. 10/13 9AM-4PM

Spend two days with Betty Mitchell and go home with a complete new outfit! On day one, we will measure for your patterns, learn how to use master size patterns to create your own size, adapt the tee shirt pattern into a tunic and finally cut our your legging and tunic using your new patterns. Bring your serger and matching thread on day two and leave with your new outfit!

Beginner Mini Quilt
Cost $45 + supplies

Tue. 10/15 AND 10/22 1-3PM

Designed for new quilters, this class will teach the basics of constructing a quilt. Students will learn basic piecing skills, measuring and cutting with a rotary cutter, use of batting and applying binding. Students must be comfortable using a sewing machine.

Apparel Technique Studio: Buttons
Cost: $45 + supplies OR enroll in the entire 7 part Apparel Technique Studio series for $250 + supplies–more than a 20% savings!!

Join nationally known educator and certified Babylock instructor Tammie Gerke in this hands-on studio. Students will explore buttons and buttonholes in apparel sewing and learn different ways to make buttonholes. This series is appropriate for beginner garment makers who have attempted garment sewing in the past and want to perfect their skills and any garment sewers who want to expand and perfect their skills.
