Kids’ Classes and Camps

Kids’ Classes and Camps

Silk Road Textiles is proud to offer kids’ classes and summer camps! Our talented staff has years of experience teaching children, and we love to help give them the tools to create their artistic visions.  Kids’ classes at Silk Road Textiles are all project based, so in addition to learning new skills and techniques, you walk away with a finished item to show off and use.  Registration is open, and spots go quickly, so call 541-3700 or stop in today to ensure you get to participate.  We limit our classes to no more than 6 kids, so you know you’ll get the attention and help you need to learn a lot and have a lot of fun!

Below is the full calendar of kid’s events for summer 2019. Keep scrolling for a list of classes and project pictures!

Kids’ Beginning Sewing (Ages 8+)

with Gay Volz
Skill Level:  No Experience Necessary

Tue. 7/9 and Wed. 7/10 1-2:30PM OR
Thu. 8/1 AND Fri. 8/2 12:30-2PM

If you have never taken a sewing class at Silk Road Textiles, this class is required before taking any other kids’ or teens’ sewing classes. Each section is a two-day class where students will learn to use and care for a sewing machine. Covered topics include properly threading the needle, winding a bobbin, sewing a straight line, selecting stitch patterns, and good sewing habits. During the class we will all make pincushions that can be used throughout other sewing classes. If time permits, we may also make geometric pillows. You are welcome to bring your machine from home or use one of ours – just let us know when you register which you’d prefer. Required Reading: All the projects in our kids’ entry level sewing classes come from A Kid’s Guide To Sewing by Sophie Kerr. If you do not already own a copy of this book, you will need to purchase one to participate in our classes.
